Customer Reviews
Our "special order" units require a 3-4 week production period. Each amp is custom built. We need time to order the components relative to the options you've selected and of course time for assembling and testing the unit. The component varieties, brands and features we offer are proven top performers. You can "pick and choose" with confidence and we'll build you a great sounding amp.
The photos shown are of previous units to provide visual examples. Generally speaking, most units look very similar when completed but your specific unit will have all the special features you have chosen.
! You must select one resistor option and one capacitor option to complete your build / order. If you need advice in selecting these, please contact us we are happy to help.
We offer several options for *resistors to use in your ST-70 amplifier build, you must choose one of these when ordering your amplifier. The resistor options are important to the sound as well as operation of the amplifier. Brands offered are Amtrans AMRG Carbon Films, Kamaya Carbon Compositions, PRP, Vishay, Dale and TE brand metal film types.
We offer several options for *capacitors to use in your ST-70 amplifier build, you must choose one when ordering your amplifier. We offer premium capacitors rated at .1uF and .047uF. Options include CDE 940 series, Amtrans, Mundorf, and Vishay.
Tubes are not included.
You are not required to purchase the tubes from us, but we'd appreciate it. Your amplifier will still be fully tested, but it will ship without tubes, unless you purchase the tubes from us.
The ST-70 uses the tubes and quantities listed below.
- (4) EL34 Power Tubes
- (1) GZ34 / 5AR4 Rectifier Tube
- (2) 6GH8A or 6U8A driver tubes

The amp can be built with binding posts/banana jacks with your choice of two out of the 3 impedance ranges of 4, 8 and 16 Ohm. There's not enough room in the chassis opening for all three when using binding posts. The standard build includes the standard screw terminals, this gives you use all three of the 4, 8 and 16 Ohm terminals. If you want the binding posts, add them to your purchase.
The stereo to mono switch is optional, our audiophile builds do not include the switch. (the amplifier will operate in Stereo only) If you want the stereo / mono switch be sure to add it to your order
The amplifier includes the original bias set and adjustment pots. You can upgrade to the bias balance control for more accurate and balanced tube biasing.
The standard circuit board is a new OEM Dynakit board. The board uses the original Dynaco 6GH8A circuit. Alternative tubes 6U8A and 6EA8 can also be used. The tube sockets are Gold Pin type for improved contact and corrosion resistance.
The PA-060 transformer is from Dynakit and it's wound for 120 volt operation so you do not need a voltage reducer. The A-470 output transformers are also current production brand new parts direct from Dynakit. These transformers are "bombproof" quality and need no further explanation.
The filter capacitor and filter choke are both brand new OEM Dynakit parts. The filter capacitor is hand polished to improve appearance.
The custom designed bias supply uses Nichicon 100V caps, audio grade film capacitors for super quiet and reliable power.
The RCA inputs are gold plated for improved contact and corrosion resistance, the inputs are spaced slightly wider apart, making more room for today's larger connectors.
Carefully and expertly wired by hand using only Kester 63/37 eutectic solder for superb connections. 600V rated 22 AWG stranded wire throughout.
Safety diodes are installed on the rectifier tube socket for added protection against "flashback".
An "anti click" capacitor is installed on the 6 amp rated power switch.
The beautiful "trophy quality" chassis is made with mirror polished stainless steel (non magnetic) and is a work of art.
The included cover is available in OEM Brown or Satin Black.
The amp sits on 4 oversized rubber feet for improved chassis ventilation and has a great looking stance.
This is a high quality, custom built, professionally hand assembled amplifier you'll be proud to own, enjoy listening to, and never have to make an excuse for.

TIPS
Your system can only be as good as its "weakest link". Quality components (preamp, amp, tubes, speakers, cables, etc.) are the only way to ensure top notch sound and performance from your stereo system.
